Flying Across the World...
Wow! I was totally not nervous about the trip! I usually get sonervous my stomach does flips, but this time I wasn't! Dave Hughes took me to the airport andthere were no casualties (you have to know Dave ;) Thanks Dave!!! There were no problems flying, no problems with customs, no nothing! When I went to Israel, customs was a totally different story!! I thought the transfers at the Tokyo airport and getting out of the Hong Kong airport was going to be difficult. It wasn't.
The first flight from DFW to Tokyo was actually no bad. It was a total of 13 hours. Watched Take the Lead with Antonio Banderas. Pretty good. Then just flipped through our personal TVs for awhile. Listened to my iPod. Tried to sleep and I did a little. Also played Sudoku too. I love that on the TV you can follow along the flight path. Very cool. I was worried that my feet would swell like they did coming back from Hawaaii but so far so good. (The did a tiny bit but nothing like last time).
This is terrible but when we flew into Tokyo, all I could think of was: "Where's Godzilla?" :) I got to the Tokyo airport and walked around for a bit to get the blood circulating. My layover was just over an hour. Cool.
Now talk about restless leg syndrome! The flight from Tokyo to Hong Kong...O MY GOODNESS!!! I was soooo ready to get off that plane. I slpet more than anything. Tried to watch V for Vendetta. Eeeeh. Sorta glad I didn't see it in the theater.
Roger's sister, Isabella, and her mother greeted me at the airport and they were so wonderful!! Got my bags, got me noodles and called a taxi. The airport is on an island as well as all of HK (made up of a bunch of islands). The taxi drove us from the airport, Lantau Island, the New Territories, Kowloon and then to HK Island. It was at night and it was beautiful to see all the lights. The taxi was very comfortable and Isabella was pointing everything out to me. Wow, so many tall buildings and mostly residential. New York has got nothing on HK. I am staying at Isabella's coworker's apartment/flat (her name is Karen). She's out of town for the weekend so I have it all to myself.
My hostesses are very gracious and provided me with water, fruit, money exchange...just everything I needed. I woke up about 6:30 this morning (July 15th) and ready to start the day. However, its raining. We'll see what we do today.
Two things: 1) HUMID!!! I think it was about 200%. When I stepped out of the airport. WOW!!! Worse than New Orleans... 2) I had a window seat and I watched while we landed in HK. I thought "hmmm we are very close over the water...REALLY CLOSE" Yeah, the landing strip melts into the water (it seemed). Islands remember!!!
Ready for my next adventure!!
